Pieces of April
More than two weeks have passed since I last blogged.
At work, it's been great so far, productivity was at work. This month I've doubled the amount of investments that I brought into the bank last month, making yours truly the top banker in his branch, even with a week of leave. A new colleague joined us this month. With more than 10 years of banking experience under his belt, I look forward to learning from him and the new friends I've made at the organisation. In addition, I can also breathe a sigh of relief, that another male banker finally joined our ranks. The team currently stands at four female bankers and two male bankers, me included. Hope comes in the package of an escape from the all-girls' talk.
In the process, I've managed to round up a loose group of like-minded investment analysts and bankers for daily exchanges in our equity research initiatives. So far the responses have been encouraging. This small group provides an outlet for the analysts to do independant research in their personal capacity and freed them from any possible conflict of interest that may arise. To the bankers, it was an opportunity to throw curveballs of analysis done against a sounding board of experience and accelerates our learning curve.
I've also realised I've developed a fondness for Fisherman's Friend Aniseed lozenges which have become indispensable at intervals between pitching to clients at work. Today I proudly survived 6 laps at the local swimming pool. A measly figure but nevertheless a welcome start after more than a month of absence from sports.
As I start on a new month in May, I am mindful of several changes which lay in store at work, with a series of sweeping changes at the bank coming from the new head of our business unit. However I remain optimistic that the changes are for the better. At the country level, the topic of the looming general elections is on everyone's lips. Everyone seems to have something to say on it, whether it be bread-and-butter issues or the upcoming casino.
Frankly, I am much more concerned about dinner.
